4. Datenübertragung an Open Food Facts
Privacy Policy for Lechs Food Viewer
The protection of your personal data is of particular importance to us. In this privacy policy, we inform you about how the Android app Lechs Food Viewer handles your data.

2. The Most Important Information First
Lechs Food Viewer requires no user account, shows no advertising and does not integrate any third-party analytics or tracking SDKs (e.g., Firebase Analytics, AdMob, Crashlytics).
Your personal data – scan history, day plan, favorites, photos and the values entered in the calculator – stays on your device. We operate no server of our own and receive no data from the app.
Two things do leave your device, and both are essential for the app to work: the request for product data sent to Open Food Facts, and technical usage data of the barcode recognition library Google ML Kit. Both are described in detail below.
3. Required Permissions and Their Purpose
- Camera (CAMERA): Required to scan barcodes on food packaging and, optionally, to take photos for manually created entries in the day plan. Camera images are processed exclusively on the device and are not transmitted.
- Internet (INTERNET): Required to retrieve product data and product images from Open Food Facts. Without an internet connection, the day plan, the calculator, the additives database and previously scanned products continue to work.
Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (provision of app functions).
4. Data Transmission to Open Food Facts
Product data (name, brand, nutrition facts, ingredient properties, additives, product image) comes from the free database Open Food Facts, run by the non-profit organization Open Food Facts (Association loi 1901) based in France, i.e. within the EU.
With every scan and every text search in the day plan, the app transmits to the Open Food Facts servers:
- the scanned barcode or the entered search term,
- for technical reasons your IP address as well as an identifier of the app (name, version and our contact address as the so-called user agent, as required by Open Food Facts).
No other data is transmitted – in particular no information about you, your day plan or your body data. Product images are loaded from the Open Food Facts image servers; your IP address is technically transmitted in the process as well.
Processing on the Open Food Facts side is governed by their privacy policy: world.openfoodfacts.org/privacy. The data is available under the Open Database License (ODbL), the product images under Creative Commons BY-SA 3.0.
Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (provision of app functions).
5. Barcode Recognition with Google ML Kit
Recognition of the barcode in the camera image is performed by the Google ML Kit library (Google LLC). Recognition runs entirely on the device; camera images are not sent to Google.
However, according to Google's terms, ML Kit may transmit technical data to Google, such as information about the device hardware and statistics on the performance and usage of the recognition (diagnostic data). We have no influence on this. Details can be found in the ML Kit Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy.
Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in reliable barcode recognition).
6. Locally Stored Data
The app stores the following data exclusively in its private storage area on your device:
- Scan history: the products you scanned, with their product data and the time of the scan.
- Day plan and favorites: the foods and amounts you put together, as well as saved plans.
- Calculator: the values you enter (sex, age, height, weight, activity level, weight-loss goal). This health-related information is used solely for the calculation on the device and is never transmitted anywhere.
- Your own photos: images you take or pick from the gallery for manually created entries. They go into the image store (see next item); taking and cropping them additionally creates short-lived intermediate files in the app's cache directory.
- Image store: one image per product – either loaded once from Open Food Facts or your own photo. The files are kept permanently in the app's private data directory and stay there until you clear the image store in the settings or uninstall the app. You decide in the settings which images may be loaded (“load product images”, “Wi-Fi only”).
You can delete the history and the day plan in the app at any time. Uninstalling the app removes all of this data.
Android backup: If you have enabled app data backup on your device, Android may store this data in your Google account as part of the system backup. This is an operating system feature that you control in the Android settings. The body data from the calculator is excluded: it is not included in the cloud backup. It is included when you transfer directly to a new device, because the data does not pass through anyone else's servers there.
7. Export and Sharing
You can export your scan history as a CSV file and pass it on via the Android share function, and read such a file back in via the import. The file is generated locally; you alone decide whom you share it with. It is not sent to us.
The image store can likewise be backed up as a ZIP archive, shared and restored later. This archive, too, is created exclusively on your device. It comes with a licence notice: the product images loaded from Open Food Facts are licensed under Creative Commons BY-SA 3.0 and must be passed on with source and licence. This does not affect your own photos.
8. Note on the Content
The nutrition facts, ratings (Lechs Points) and additive classifications shown in the app are for orientation only and do not constitute medical or nutritional advice. The information on the original packaging is authoritative.
9. Your Rights (Data Subject Rights)
Since all personal data is stored exclusively locally on your device, you have full control. You also have the following legal rights:
- Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
- Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
- Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
- Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
- Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
- Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
- Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR)
1. Administrator danych
Lech Kuffel
Puthofweg 23

2. Najważniejsze na początek
Lechs Food Viewer nie wymaga konta użytkownika, nie wyświetla reklam i nie zawiera zewnętrznych bibliotek analitycznych ani śledzących (np. Firebase Analytics, AdMob, Crashlytics).
- Internet (INTERNET): Wymagany do pobierania danych i zdjęć produktów z Open Food Facts. Bez połączenia z internetem plan dnia, kalkulator, baza dodatków oraz wcześniej zeskanowane produkty działają nadal.
Podstawa prawna: art. 6 ust. 1 lit. b RODO (udostępnienie funkcji aplikacji).
4. Przekazywanie danych do Open Food Facts
Trafiają one do pamięci zdjęć (zob. następny punkt); podczas robienia i przycinania powstają dodatkowo krótkotrwałe pliki tymczasowe w katalogu pamięci podręcznej aplikacji.
Historię i plan dnia możesz w każdej chwili usunąć w aplikacji.
7. Eksport i udostępnianie
Historię skanowania możesz wyeksportować jako plik CSV i przekazać dalej za pomocą funkcji udostępniania Androida; taki plik możesz też ponownie wczytać przez import. Plik powstaje lokalnie; o tym, komu go przekażesz, decydujesz wyłącznie Ty.
8. Informacja o treściach
Wyświetlane w aplikacji wartości odżywcze, oceny (Lechs Points) i klasyfikacje dodatków służą wyłącznie orientacji i nie stanowią porady medycznej ani dietetycznej. Wiążące są informacje na oryginalnym opakowaniu.
9. Twoje prawa (prawa osoby, której dane dotyczą)
Ponieważ wszystkie dane osobowe przechowywane są wyłącznie lokalnie na Twoim urządzeniu, masz nad nimi pełną kontrolę. Ponadto przysługują Ci następujące prawa:
- Prawo dostępu do danych (art. 15 RODO)
- Prawo do sprostowania danych (art. 16 RODO)
- Prawo do usunięcia danych (art. 17 RODO)
- Prawo do ograniczenia przetwarzania (art. 18 RODO)
- Prawo do przenoszenia danych (art. 20 RODO)
- Prawo do sprzeciwu (art. 21 RODO)
- Prawo do wniesienia skargi do organu nadzorczego (art. 77 RODO)
